en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_sa…  If you either are too lazy or don't have the time to sift through that to get to the pertinent info, here it is:

"Genesis 22 relates the binding of Isaac, in which God tests Abraham by asking him to present his son, Isaac, as a sacrifice on Mount Moriah. No reason is given within the text. Abraham agrees to this command without arguing. The story ends with an angelstopping Abraham at the last minute and making Isaac's sacrifice unnecessary by providing a ram, caught in some nearby bushes, to be sacrificed instead. Francesca Stavrakopoulou has speculated that it is possible that the story "contains traces of a tradition in which Abraham does sacrifice Isaac". Rabbi A.I. Kook, first Chief Rabbi of Israel, stressed that the climax of the story, commanding Abraham not to sacrifice Isaac, is the whole point: to put an end to the ritual of child sacrifice, which contradicts the morality of a perfect and giving (not taking) monotheistic God.[9] According to Irving Greenberg the story of the binding of Isaac, symbolizes the prohibition to worship God by human sacrifices, at a time when human sacrifices was the norm worldwide.[10]"

Because tapping Abraham on the shoulder and saying "I don't want any person sacrificed to me" makes too much sense.

worldwide? China? Japan? North America?

If god had done it that way, it would simply have become some obscure passage in the Bible. It also wouldn't have driven home just how much God doesn't want us to sacrifice children.

By "worldwide," it means, "spread in very many places across the globe."

And then God sacrificed his own child, making him a hypocrite. "Do as I say, not as I do" dosen't fly with me. But what could you expect from a mass murderer who says not to kill. This should be too much hypocrisy even for Christians. Maybe Satan wrote the bible. You know, to make God look bad.

And if God appeared to all these cultures and boomed "CUT IT THE FUCK OUT!" I think it would've left a decent impression.

You know what?  Why don't you just go read C. S. Lewis's Mere Christianity.  It explains things a lot better than I could.

I just read a brief summary. I find it funny that he mentions Hitler. Hitler is the example I us when I need someone to compare God to.

Instead of reading a summary, why don't you read some quotes?  I've posted several in my journal, as well as many other quotes from C. S. Lewis.

I think you misunderstood. I wasn't comparing Christians to Hitler. I was comparing GOD to Hitler. Genocidal monsters, both. That's what amused me. He says there must be objective morality because Christians and atheists thought what Hitler did was wrong. But God does the same thing and Christians try to justify it!

🎶Yahweh drowned the little children!
all the children of he world!
Rad and yellow, black and white.
He had those fuckers in his sights! 🔫
Yahweh drowned the little children of the world!🎶

Well, I'm not impressed. If you tell me you had bacon and eggs for breakfast, I'll believe you. It's rather common. If you tell me the tooth fairy cooked the eggs for you, I'll think you should be committed.
Just like, if you tell me Jesus drank wine, well, people drink wine. If you tell me Jesus turned water into wine, I'll think you should be committed.

Well I have to ask: was it God who asked the sacrifice, or was it a Church (or religion or whatever, the Church as we know it today didn't exist at the time, did it?) who asked to be more important for a man than his own family? Not that it would make a difference for both poor guys...

If people could only USE THEIR BRAINS or their SENSE OF RATIONALITY, then the Binding of Issac would be the ONLY proof they need to realize that God. Is. A Monster.

What is the Moral of this story? Because God told him to NOT do it at the end, that somehow absolves him of this entire situation? It Doesn't! If anything; it makes God even MORE monstrous. Why? Well let's examine the entire situation.
1; the reason that God invented this little - ahem - "test" is because he's under the impression that no one on Earth should love anything - not their wives, or their children - more than they love him. Wow; kind of demanding for a guy we've never met.
2; He tells Abraham to test his faith in him...By binding his son to an Altar and sacrificing him...Wow; talk about the hypocrisy considering everything that Christians have done to the Pagans over the centuries. But here is a God whose ego is SO huge, the he demands that a man murder his own child in his name.
3; Abraham was a Sheep; plain and simple. He was MORE of a Sheep than what he tried to make Issac into. So naturally the sheep was going to do what was commanded of it, and he was actually going to KILL his own son, to what potentially amounts to a Voice he hears in his head. So finally God comes in and tells him, "No; don't do it. Your devotion to me has been proven. Your son may live."
I mentioned that this makes God MORE monstrous; it does, and here's why. It shows how little God values the Human Psyche. Can you imagine how traumatic it must be for both Issac and Abraham to have gone through that? Issac now has to live the rest of his life with the knowledge that his father was prepared to kill him on command. At this point; leaving him alive almost seems cruel. But does God care about their sanity and mental stability? Of course not.

You got the Title Wrong...This wasn't a Big Joke...it was a Game. This is all a Game to God; a Psychological Game, where God plays with Human Lives for his own amusement to stroke his own Ego. I stand by what I say, that this God is a Monster on the same level of Jigsaw from the Saw Movie Franchise.

This story shows that God doesn't value the Human Mind, and the book of Job shows that God doesn't value Human Life. He is incapable of feeling affection for anything but himself. He is a Liar, a Narcissist, and a Hypocrite.

It was normal at the time for a god to demand child sacrifice, so God was trying to show how "He" wasn't like those demons in masks at all.

A test of Loyalty? Wow...
Huh; so let me ask you something. Why is it that a human asking someone to sacrifice their child as a test of loyalty is considered an abomination, but if God asks you to do it, its okay?

The problem with me asking YOU this question, is that I KNOW exactly what your answer is going to be. So go on Sheep...Let me hear it. C'mon Sheep; "Baaaaaaah." C'mon you little Lamb...Defend your Shepherd; C'mon, "Baah" at me. Defend your Shepherd like the lost sheep you are, when all of us who can THINK, realize that your Shepherd is leading you straight to the slaughter house...

I'm afraid this stuff was par for the course in that part of the world at the time, some of the local pagan nations did perform human & animal sacrifices to gods like Baal/Bel and the infamous Moloch.  One of the reasons the Romans felt superior to the Carthagians and their middle eastern kin was that they could point at their sacrifice of children

Yup. That's all. Just showing the "holy scriptures" for what they are, warts and all. Mostly warts. Ah fuck it. It's basically a big wart with some nice things said by Jesus that were actually said in much better ways at least five hundred years before by Confucius.
